The presence of the human hand is apparent in all aspects of village life.

One reason the Saxons were able to remain relatively independent economically was that they were skilled tradespeople who were adept at making and selling their handicrafts. Women inherited and also made embroidered and knitted items that became a part of their dowrys, and below are some examples of their skilled hands.
